01. ABOUT RECIPES

Aval Upma, also known as Poha Upma, is a light and nutritious South Indian breakfast dish made from flattened rice (Aval/Poha). It is quickly soaked and sautéed with onions, green chillies, curry leaves, and tempered with mustard seeds. Lightly cooked in oil, it results in a soft, fluffy, and flavourful dish that is easy to digest, making it a perfect start to the day

  • Aval / Poha (flattened rice) – 40 g
  • Onion – 15 g
  • Green chili – 2 g
  • Curry leaves – 1 g



  • Mustard seeds – 1 g
  • Oil – 5 g
  • Salt – 1 g
  • Water – For Soaking

04. INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Rinse the Aval/Poha quickly in water, drain, and keep aside for 5 minutes to soften.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, let them splutter.
  • Add curry leaves, chopped onions, and green chillies, sauté until onions are translucent.
  • Add soaked Aval and salt, gently mix until well combined.
  • Cook on low flame for 2–3 minutes, stirring lightly. Serve warm.
