01. ABOUT RECIPES

Horse Gram Adai is a nutritious South Indian savoury pancake made with soaked horse gram (kollu), rice, Channa dal, and urad dal, blended into a smooth batter with spices like red chillies and cumin seeds. Lightly cooked on a tawa with minimal oil, it is soft, filling, and rich in flavour. This adai is especially valued for its high protein content and traditional use in supporting health and vitality

02.INGREDIENTS

  • Horse gram (kulthi/kollu) – 12 g (soaked)
  • Rice – 8 g
  • Channa dal – 5 g
  • Urad dal – 3 g
  • Red chillies – 0.5 g



  • Cumin seeds – 0.5 g
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – ~1 g (for greasing)
  • Water – as required

04. INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Wash and soak horse gram, rice, Channa dal, and urad dal separately for 6–8 hours.
  • Drain and grind with red chillies, cumin, and salt into a coarse batter (add water as needed).
  • Heat a tawa, grease lightly, and pour batter to spread into a small adai.
  • Cook on medium flame until golden on both sides, flipping once.
