01. ABOUT RECIPES

Jowar Upma is a wholesome South Indian breakfast made using jowar rava (broken sorghum). This gluten-free millet is lightly roasted and cooked with a mix of vegetables like carrot, beans, peas, and capsicum. It is tempered with mustard seeds, urad dal, Curry leaves, and flavoured with onion, green chili, and ginger for a savoury taste. Jowar Upma is light, nutritious, and easy to digest, making it a perfect start to the day for weight management and overall health.

02.INGREDIENTS

  • Jowar rava (pearled/broken) – 35g
  • Mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, capsicum) – 25g
  • Onion – 15g
  • Green chili – 2g
  • Ginger – 2g
  • Curry leaves – 1g



  • Mustard seeds – 1g
  • Urad dal – 1g
  • Oil – 5g (1 tsp)
  • Water – 100ml (adjust for cooking)
  • Salt – to taste

04. INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Dry roast jowar rava for 2–3 minutes on low flame and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, ginger, and green chili; sauté until aromatic.
  • Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  • Add diced vegetables and cook for 2–3 minutes.
  • Pour in water and salt, bring to boil.
  • Add roasted jowar rava slowly while stirring to avoid lumps.
  • Cook on low flame until water is absorbed and upma is soft.
  • Serve hot.
