01. ABOUT RECIPES

Puffed Rice Upma, also called Pori Upma, is a light and quick South Indian breakfast or snack made from puffed rice sautéed with onions, green chillies, curry leaves, and tempered with mustard seeds and turmeric. Lightly cooked in minimal oil, it is soft, flavourful, and easy to digest. Often garnished with fresh coriander, it is a wholesome, low-calorie option suitable for all age groups.

02.INGREDIENTS

  • Puffed rice (Pori) – 50 g
  • Onion – 20 g (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli – 2 g (chopped)
  • Curry leaves – 2 g
  • Mustard seeds – 1 g



  • Oil –1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Turmeric powder – 0.5 g
  • Coriander leaves – 2 g (optional)
  • Water – As Required

04. INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Rinse puffed rice quickly in a sieve under running water, then squeeze gently to remove excess water.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add green chilli, curry leaves, and onion. Sauté until onions turn soft.
  • Add turmeric powder and salt.
  • Add the softened puffed rice and mix well over low flame for 1–2 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve warm.
